The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) is a statutory body responsible for regulating the telecommunications sector of the British Virgin Islands. The TRC advises the Minister of Communications and Works on telecommunications policies internationally and regionally and protects the interests of users of telecommunications services. A brief description of what regulates the TRC and some of the publications and appointments are listed below.
Important developments in the establishment and early years of the TRC.
The Telecommunications Act, 2006 was adopted in June 2006 and published in October 2006.
The first CEO of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) was appointed in October 2006.
The first Board of the TRC was appointed in January 2007.
The TRC was transferred from the Ministry of Communications and Works in April 2007.
The Telecommunications Policy was published in April 2007.
New licences were issued to Cable and Wireless, CCT and BVI Cable TV in May–June 2007.
Digicel was issued a licence in December 2007.
TRC’s second Board was appointed in June 2008.
